Counselor
Janine How Galliano
I am a Substance Abuse Counselor with over 23 years of experience in recovery services, born and raised in the Bay Area. I believe healing is a collaborative process rooted in honesty, accountability, and compassionate care without judgment. Creative expression is central to my philosophy, as it opens pathways to insight, resilience, and lasting change.
My professional foundation began at Sequoia Treatment Center in Redwood City, where I completed my supervised practicum in Substance Use Disorder treatment. My counseling style is direct, grounded, and encouraging, shaped by both lived experience and years of clinical work.
At Summit Estate, I facilitate psychoeducational and process-oriented Substance Use Disorder (SUD) groups focused on relapse prevention, behavioral awareness, coping strategies, and recovery skill development. Through guided writing, experiential exercises, and reflective dialogue, I help clients strengthen self-awareness, process emotions, and engage fully in their recovery.
I serve as a 12-Step Facilitator at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall in San Mateo County and as an H&I Volunteer facilitating recovery meetings for veterans at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in French Language Education from La Sorbonne in Paris and am Director Qualified in Early Childhood Education (ECE). I completed Substance Abuse Counseling coursework through Penn Foster Career School and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
